Notes for Nicholas Boren

Information on Nicholas Boren (Boring) was sent to me via email from Gail Peterson . Gail says her information came from a booklet by Chlotiel Bixler Massey, dated 1939, "Descendants of Nicholas Boren and Mary Hampson Boren".

Another source was found in an email by Denise Maddox . Her site is:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/1746/boren.html

She says that another books is by Helen Meeks, "Boren's Past & Present". Her information is as follows:

Nicholas Boring (1756 Ireland - 4/7/1826/36 Union T.W.P. Posey Co., Ind. bur Gibson , New Mt. Their children: Polly, Margaret, Absalom, Hester Ann, Ezekiel, John, James, Ruth, and Temperance.

Nicholas Boring (by his own statement) was born in 1756 in Ireland and came to the US with his parents as a child; settled in Chester County, PA near the Maryland line. Another book tells us the Borens moved from Scotland to Northern Ireland. They were Presbyterians at the time.

Mary Catharine Hampson came as a child to the US with her parents; and settled in Cecil County, Maryland. Mary was a very beautiful well-built lady.

After Nicholas and Mary married they went to Kentucky, then to TN, where they reared their children. They lived in TN a greater part of their lives, removing in their old age to Indiana in Gibson County. Descendants of Scotch-Irish Presbyterians. In TN the Borens helped organize the First Christian Church. Nicholas received 160 acres from the government. Nicholas was a planter; he was wounded in the "Battle of Brandwine." He also served under George Washington. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier. Some of their children came to Robertson County, and Sumner County, TN and Washington County, TN where the Boring/Boren line lived.
