Email from Carson Ray dated 26 Jan 1999, forwarding info from researcher, Jackie Passey.
The following was taken from the book: JUDGES OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS (1836-1846) Compiled and written by Joe E. Ericson:

[page 204] "Joseph Mott, born 1775 probably in Wilkes Co., GA, came to Bevil District in Texas before 1824. Before immigrating to Tesas, however, he had been a County Tax Collector of Clark County, Alabama (1817-1819): County Road Commissioner, Clark County, Alabama (1819-1821): Overseer of Roads, Clark County, Alabama (1821): and a Counter Coroner in Alabama. Once he arrived in Texas he quickly became an Alcade for Zavala's Colony. Postmaster of the city of Jasper in 1837: the first Chief Justice of the Jasper County Court from 1836 to 1839: and a Justice of the Peace in Jasper County from 1841 to 1843. He died in Jasper County before 1850.
Judge Mott and his second wife, Zelpha Wiggins Mott (born about 1780), had at least six children: Pamelia (born abt 1812 in Alabama) who married Mr. Shirley: Benjamin Franklin (born about 1814 in Alabama) who married Mrs. Caroline Watts Priest September 20, 1855. Caroline (born about 1815 in Alabama): Helen (born about 1818 in Alabama) who married Olver Howard Delano in 1838: Amanda (born about 1820 in Alabama) who married William Sturrock: and Oliver Mott (born about 1824 in Texas). By his unknown first wife, Joseph Mott had a daughter Parthena Coursey (born about 1800 in Georgia). Sources: FOUNDERS AND PATRIOTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS; Mrs. Harrison Hollar.

Most of the children mentioned above lived and died around Woodville and Jasper, Texas. A bunch are buried in the Woodville Cemetary. Parthena Mott md James Corsey in Clark Co., Alabama on the 4th of September 1817. They moved to Texas with her parents I think. At least she is listed close to her parents in the 1835 Census of Bevil District, Texas. They list her as Parthena Motte 33 and Valentine Courcy 18. Motte was her maiden name. Joseph Motte (60) is listed as a farmer with his wife Zelpha Wigins (55) and children Pamelia (23) Caroline (20) Hellen (17) Amanda (13) and Oliver (11). B. F. Mott, farmer (21) is listed separately also.

I have Joseph marrying Zilpha in 1780. Parthena was born in 1802 and married in 1817. Looks like she was probably a 16 year old bride and most likely the daughter of both Joseph and Zilpha. (Not another wife as predicted in the source above).
