Notes for Elizabeth Muse

Elizabeth is remembered well by Etta L. Robbins Wood in her Affidavit of Identification she tells: " I can remember Elizabeth Wood quite well. She was a widow at that time, and lived in a small log house built for her near Levi Wood, her youngest son. This was in the central part of San Augustine County, just East of the Ayish Bayou. The original Charles A. Wood, Sr. house was located about where the Richard (Dick) Wood house now stands, which is about 1/4 mile north of the Levi Wood old house place. Both Charles A. Wood, Sr., and his wife, Elizabeth Wood, are buried side-by-side in the Wood Cemetary just West of the Richard Wood house.
I well remember that "Grandma" Wood, commonly called "Aunt Betsy" or Grandma Betsy, was a short red-headed Irish woman. She was very industrious, and kept a very neat, clean house. She used to sweep her floors each night before going to bed. She would then make a cup of cold coffee, drink it while taking her nightly smoke on her pipe, then retire. She was fair and kind, but if she was crossed she had a very violent temper, and wasn't afraid of the Devil, himself."
